Matthew Eric Wrinkles
20th Execution in Indiana since 1976
Victims: Natalie Fulkerson, Mark “Tony” Fulkerson, Debra Wrinkles
On July 21, 1994, Eric Wrinkles broke into the home of his in-laws where his estranged wife Debra was staying during her divorce from Eric. High on methamphetamine, dressed in camouflage, and having cut the phone lines to the house, Eric shot Debra, Tony, and Natalie, all of whom died at the scene of the crime. He was apprehended six hours later at his cousin’s house.
Several children, his own and the Fulkersons’, were present and witnessed the crime. He was sentenced to death on June 14, 1995.
Since the commission of the crime, Eric has shown remorse. On a November 10th episode of “Oprah”, he apologized to the children and parents over satellite feed. The children, now in their 20s and 30s have forgiven him and do not want him to be executed. Natalie Fulkerson’s mother, Mary Winnecke, is a devout Catholic and has campaigned for months for clemency for Eric by writing letters to the Governor.
